Petrol Price in Pakistan Increased by Rs6.39, Diesel Up Rs7.83
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced another increase in petroleum prices, raising the cost of both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) due to ongoing fluctuations in global oil markets and rising geopolitical tensions in the Persian Gulf.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol prices have been increased by Rs6.39 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) has become costlier by Rs7.83 per litre. The revised rates came into effect on July 23 (Thursday).
Following the latest revision, petrol is now priced at Rs327.12 per litre, while high-speed diesel will be sold at Rs375.04 per litre across the country.

Why Fuel Prices Increased
The government attributed the latest increase to changes in international petroleum prices following renewed tensions in the Middle East, particularly around the Persian Gulf. Global crude oil market volatility continues to influence local fuel prices in Pakistan.
Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced that petroleum prices would now be reviewed on a daily basis instead of weekly to better reflect movements in international oil markets.
Under the new policy, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has been assigned the responsibility of determining daily fuel prices based on global trends, following approval from the federal cabinet and the prime minister.
Petrol Pump Owners Delay Strike
Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) has postponed its planned nationwide strike for two weeks after holding talks with the petroleum minister.
The association had previously announced a countrywide shutdown after negotiations with the government over the proposed daily fuel pricing mechanism failed. The temporary suspension of the strike provides additional time for both sides to continue discussions.
Impact on Consumers
The increase in petrol prices is expected to place additional financial pressure on millions of Pakistanis, particularly those who rely on motorcycles, cars, rickshaws, and other private vehicles for daily transportation.
The rise in diesel prices could also increase transportation costs, freight charges, agricultural expenses, and electricity generation costs, as high-speed diesel is widely used by heavy transport vehicles, industries, and power generators.
Fuel Prices Remain Below Record Highs
Despite the latest increase, current fuel prices remain well below the record levels witnessed earlier this year. Petrol had previously reached Rs458.41 per litre, while diesel climbed to Rs520.35 per litre during the peak of the global energy crisis.
The government says it will continue adjusting petroleum prices in line with international market conditions to ensure domestic pricing remains aligned with global oil trends.
