Pakistan celebrated a landmark sporting moment as Asim Khan claimed the bronze in mixed martial arts at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, marking the country’s first-ever medal in MMA at the continental multi-sport event. The podium finish arrives with Pakistan making its debut in the discipline at the Asian Games.
Historic milestone and reactions
The achievement was hailed by the Pakistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PMMAF) as the result of years of disciplined training and preparation. Federation president Zulfiqar Ali congratulated Asim and said the success belongs to the entire nation, while also noting the role of technical staff in the outing.
PMMAF highlighted that senior official Abu Hurrara was selected by the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) among Asia’s leading referees to officiate at the Games, a selection the federation said underlines Pakistan’s growing technical capability in the sport. The PMMAF also expressed gratitude to Pakistan Olympic Association President Mohammad Arif Saeed, Secretary General Mohammad Khalid Mahmood, the Pakistan Sports Board and other supporting bodies for enabling the national squad’s participation.
Speaking after his medal win, Asim dedicated the achievement to the nation: “I dedicate this medal to the people of Pakistan.” He thanked the federation for trusting him and said he hopes the result will lead to increased support and opportunities for Pakistani MMA athletes.
The bronze by Asim Khan not only adds to Pakistan’s Asian Games medal tally but could also boost interest and investment in MMA domestically as the country builds on this inaugural appearance in the sport at the Games.
